This is the 3rd week of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge, and I might be in trouble this week ya’all. The carpet installers are coming on Wednesday, and I have only today to finish installing the baseboards and building the custom bookcase before they arrive. Yes, those things have to be installed before the carpet.
What would a 4 week design challenge be without a little drama, and a few late night projects you barely get finished in time?
On the bright side, I did get a couple other tasks accomplished on my daughter’s bedroom this past week.

Wall Paint Adventures
I’m pleased to announce that I have finally gotten the walls painted! But it’s not sporting either of the colors I planned for it.
Again, what is a room makeover without a few challenges? You’ll never believe it, but those two paint samplers I was choosing between…the one I had you guys vote on via my Instagram Stories… yeeaaaah, it didn’t happen.
The white-grey color won the vote. But somehow I came home without either color (must have been a mis-tint on the part of the paint shop). Worse, I didn’t realize it until I was finishing the last piece of the final wall. It was a cloudy day, and it didn’t occur to me to check the paint against the swatch I had painted on the wall. So there I was on the final wall when the sun finally decided to come out. And I thought, wow that is a very blue undertone, it didn’t look like this on the swatch. Sure enough, it was not even close to the original color I took to the store to have mixed. Oh well. It’s close enough…it still looks pretty.
Aaaaand The Curtains Are UP!
In case you were wondering if I got anything at all completed at all. I hung my curtains from Spoonflower!
I mean, yes that sounds small. But It felt GREAT! And it looks even better, so I’m celebrating the small projects. Can’t you just envision this room done already? If it weren’t for the hideous green carpet, it would feel almost like a normal room.
I also got the new, much prettier, outlet covers from Liberty Hardware up! Okay okay, also an easy fix.
But to be fair, so many overlook the details. And you know what they say about the details… I bet you never saw an outlet ‘before and after’ shot. Haha! Maybe now you understand what a little TLC and attention to detail can do.

This pretty little outlet cover is from the Classic Architecture line by Liberty Hardware…bet you didn’t know they made more than gorgeous cabinet hardware.
Custom Bookcase Dreams
Okay, so I need to get back to building, but I am grateful my brother was here last week to help me get a head start on the bookcase build. All the pieces are cut, and the pocket holes have been drilled.
I have started the assembly, but I have a long way to go. Today the bookcase needs to be at least mostly done, and the baseboards have to be installed.
But, if you want to catch a bit of the process, follow along here via my Instagram highlights.
What’s Left, You Ask?
Okay guys. If I’m lucky, I will get the rest of this done in a week or so. But that depends on whether the carpeting goes off without a hitch, and the accessories I ordered for the room arrive on time. Wish me luck!

I can’t believe you work like that! Cutting wood and drilling in this dress, maybe it is how it’s done right though, haha. Great progress on the bookcase and room overall. I absolutely agree that small details matter the most, and it’s proven by such seemingly unnoticeable things like outlets once you’ve made a change. It all just gets together and looks so much better even though you haven’t changed much or anything really (seemingly) significant. BTW this green carpet is ruining my immersion to be honest, I can’t wait for it to go away.

I’m loving the darker shade of paint with the wallpaper! It really makes the headboard pop out more. Looking forward to seeing how this amazing room turns out!

I love that you are drilling holes in a skirt!! The details in the room are really beautiful.

Love the way those curtains pop against the paint color. It’s looking so beautiful already.

Thanks! It doesn’t take much to improve on THIS room though. LOL!
