Be honest. When you run out of hand soap, do you first think about what’s on sale or what will look cute next to the bathroom sink?
If it’s the second one, welcome. You’re an *aesthetics first* home decor girlie. That means you believe every corner of your house deserves a little beauty, even the corners no guest will ever see.
I’ve rounded up 20 aesthetic home habits that prove you’re one of us. I’m guilty of most of them. Keep a running count as you read, because I’m going to ask for your total at the end.

1. Your Dish Brush Has a Fancy Home
Let’s start at the sink, because that’s where the home girlie journey begins. Your dish brush and sponge do not live in a sad plastic holder. They sit in a pretty dish or vase.
Even the sink deserves a styled moment. Is it practical? Mostly. Is it adorable? Absolutely.

2. Your Kitchen Counters Are Styled, Not Just Functional
Your counters are prime real estate, and you treat them that way. A mini lamp adds ambient light, and a tray corrals the olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Suddenly the counter looks intentional instead of cluttered. It’s still a working kitchen, just a dressed-up one.
Shop: Kitchen counter accessories (both the practical and pretty ones!)

3. Your Kitchen Pantry & Drawers Are Made Up Of Matching Jars and Labels
You almost never leave anything in its original box. Pasta, flour, cereal, and snacks all get transferred to matching jars with matching labels.
Is it more work? Yes. Do you feel a little thrill every time you open the pantry door? Also yes.

4. You Decant Everything
Dish soap, hand soap, shampoo, and lotion never stay in their original bottles. They live in refillable bottles that match the room.
Your significant other is perplexed by this. I am not.

5. You Have a Tray for Everything
Hot drinks, the bathroom vanity, the kitchen counter, and even the remote all get their own tray. In my home, I can’t get enough of a marble tray (talk about bringing the feel of luxury!).
A tray turns a pile of stuff into a little collection. It also makes cleaning easier, since you can lift the whole group at once.

6. You Hide the Ugly Stuff
Cords, chargers, and the trash can all live in a basket or behind a cabinet door. If it’s not pretty, it’s not on display.
This is the home girlie’s golden rule, and it’s one of the easiest ways to make a room look more polished.

7. You Don’t Do Junk Drawers
You do cute decorative boxes, tins, and baskets for all of it. Rubber bands, batteries, and takeout menus each get a pretty little home.
The classic junk drawer has been replaced with something that’s actually organized and kind of lovely.
Shop: Decorative storage boxes perfect for hiding things in plain sight.

8. You Can’t Leave the Drawers Alone
You just love a cute storage solution. “I’ll just tidy this one drawer” quickly becomes a three-hour project with dividers, trays, and a shopping cart full of organizers.
No regrets. Your drawers have never looked better.

9. You Love Labeled Bins and Containers
Your fridge, your closet, and pretty much everywhere else get matching bins with labels. You can find anything in seconds, and it looks good doing it.
My closet was a disaster for too long, and going for simple sheet organizers, dividers, and canvas bins made a difference overnight. I also never had to unfold a sheet again to figure out which size it was.

10. Your Desk Runs on Glassware
Craft supplies, pens, and office bits live in pretty, sophisticated glassware instead of a plain cup.
A scalloped glass of pens feels so much more inspiring than a mug from a work event. Productivity and pretty can go together. And just in case you were wondering, yes, that is a vintage cocktail glass with pens in it.

11. Your Bookshelf Is Styled
Your books are stacked by color or turned sideways, and artwork and shelf decor are always in the mix. A bookshelf is never just for books.
The trick is to mix vertical and horizontal stacks so the shelf has rhythm.
Shop: I’ve curated some decor perfect for turning you bookcases into works of art.

12. Your Closet Shelves Look Like a Boutique
Shoes, hats, and sweaters share space with a piece of artwork, a mini mirror, or a tray of perfume bottles. Getting dressed feels like shopping at your own store.
And by the way, when you have really stylish belts or jewelry, store them on display as the decor!

13. You Decorate Even the Utilitarian Rooms
A few pieces of decor always find their way into the garage or the laundry room. A framed print above the washer and a pretty basket for the dryer sheets count.
If the room does a hard job, it deserves a little beauty too.

14. Everyday Items Get the Aesthetic Upgrade
You can’t resist a prettier version of the basics. Toothbrushes, trash cans, hangers, and even clothespins all get the upgrade.
It’s a small spend, but it adds up to a house where nothing feels like an afterthought.
Shop: My bathroom upgrades (yes my tortoise patterned toothbrushes & hair brushes)

15. You Choose Lamps Over Overhead Lights
Soft lamplight beats harsh overhead lighting every single time. The overhead light only stays on when it has a dimmer, and you can control the hue. That’s when it’s a great asset and the brightness can be turned up or down for utility or for mood.

16. You Light a Candle for the Mood
You light a candle even if it’s just to clean or cook dinner. Scrubbing the bathtub feels a lot more glamorous when something smells like amber and vanilla.

17. Your Throw Blanket Is Always Draped Just So
The pillows are fluffed, the blanket is casually draped. It looks effortless, but we both know it took a few tries.
Oh, and if you are anything like me, you probably have a throw blanket on every sofa and armchair because it’s not only pretty, it somehow makes it feel so much more welcoming and warm!

18. You Secretly Sacrifice Little Things to Keep It Beautiful
You’re putting that tassel on the drawer, even if it means it’s a little more work to close. The pretty basket lid is a bit annoying, and the glass jar is heavier than plastic.
It’s a small sacrifice, and you’d do it again.

19. Thrift and Antique Stores Are Self Care
Stopping for trinkets is the best kind of me time. Some people book a spa day. You walk the aisles of an antique store, hunting for the perfect little brass dish.
Bonus points if you leave with something you didn’t know you needed.

20. You Say You’re Cleaning, But You’re Really Protecting the Styling
You’re not just wiping the counters. You’re making sure every tray, candle, and vase is back in its exact spot. “Cleaning” becomes your ultimate aesthetic home habits for maintaining the beauty.
It’s the only kind of cleaning that feels like decorating.

So, How Many Did You Check Off?
Time to tally up your total:
- 1 to 7: You’re a budding home decor girlie, and your future self is already shopping for jars.
- 8 to 14: You’re a certified aesthetic home girlie. Your home is probably very pretty.
- 15 to 20: You’re fully committed, and your family thinks you need to be committed. Welcome to the club.
Tell me your total in the comments, and send this list to the *aesthetics forever* girlie in your life who needs to see it. I want to know which aesthetic home habit is the most “you.”
